How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?


Research and Planning

When making our music video we needed to do some research. How we done this was researching music videos on You Tube for our ideas. Looking at big artists e.g. Kyle and then looking at unknown bands e.g. Not Advised which we looked at there previous videos that they have made so this can helped us get what genre they are betraying to get across to the audience.

One video we looked at was ‘Dizzy Rascal- Holiday’ because the video is shown at a house pool party :

which we wanted to show in our music video, so we had a look at their video to see how they done that and see what we could do for ours. But unfortunately when it come to creating it, it was harder then we thought as it was the wrong time of year to do it as it was just coming into winter so not many people wanted to do it, Then to throw our ‘Fake’ house party we created a Facebook event to people but we didn’t have any one apply back to it, so we didn’t have enough people to do it. To make this work we needed a lot of people involved in it. So we had to come up with a different idea for the video. So we had to do more research on it by looking on You Tube unknown artists to see what they have done for music videos that have become successful to the audience on the internet not world wide as you will needs loads of money to create it. So we looked at a home video that ‘Not Advised’ done which helped us a lot to get ideas what we wanted to do, So You Tube was very useful in sources we needed.

So once we done this we recorded all the research we find on www.blogger.com which is just a free online website which lets you create a free account with them to create like a diary of everything you been doing day by day. It’s a great way to communicate to the audience of how you are doing in creating this video. Also we added on our blogs Targets for us to do day by day which is included in my blog, so you can see how long and what we have done to create this successful Music Video.

Construction

When filming our Music video we used a Sony Handycam Video Camera so we can capture our footage, some of footage's was filmed at night so we had to use night vision to pick up the footage we wanted, to capture all this we filmed on a DV Tape. To get the angles we wanted to use a tripod.

So once we had our filming we had to edit it all together, so to this we first connected the camera and the computer by using a Fire-wire and then using Adobe Premier Pro this programme allowed us to capture all of our footage onto it and add effects to it e.g. to enhance the black and white on it to make it stand out more. We also were able to speed up some of the footage we had to go with the pace of the music.

Evaluation

To create the evaluation we showed our music video to the class to get feedback for the rest of the class by using the projector. Then to show our ancillary tasks we used the computers to show them, this way they can give me good points about it and points that need improving on it. Theses points will help me write my evaluation.

My evaluation is posted on www.blogger.com, this way I can post it on there each question in each post to make it clearer and easier to understand and read to the audience. Using the blogger is very easy to use for everyday use If you want to post something new and update your blog what you’ve been doing. This way I can type what I want to write with a heading so people can read it and no if they are going to be interested in that post or not, if not, they can read on or not, also if you don’t want to just post it straight out you can save them in draft which no one can see except you. Also don’t worry about losing what you got e.g. if the computer crash’s because the blog automatically saves it within your drafts. It’s really helpful because computers are not very reliable.

Evaulation

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I think that my magazine advertisement, CD cover and our music video has kept with our theme of a pop rock throughout, throughout we have the some people advising as the main part. WE have also included in our video the fun elements that teenagers go through like the band trashing up the classroom the typical girls going to gigs getting really drunk then stumbling home with friends. Which most rock/pop bands include.

We have got the band to pose for a few pictures that we took and included them into to our ancillary tasks. They are also in our music video too so it is following the continuity that you have to have in the media world. Also what looks effective is the combination of our main product and our ancillary tasks is that the theme is followed through out and is also challenging the audience as some parts are not as typical I the real media.


What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Audience Feedback

To get our audience feedback we got the rest of the class to give us feedback by watching our music video and looking at our ancillary tasks and give me pointers on how to improve areas that need improving and what was good about it. I felt like the audience feedback was very helpful in what I was doing and helped me improve what I have done.

Music video

From our Audience feedback I have learned that we need to have more shots of our main person walking towards the camera as it will make the music video look more effective e.g. Kyle's Video we watched with her just walking around the streets but the camera shot was in front of her, and her walking towards the camera. Also we needed more cut shots of the 'Band' Trashing up the room to show more of genre music style with in the film, this would have kept the audience more interested in the music video and not get bored.

What other feedback we got was that the Narrative structure that we created was good as it gave ore interest t the audience as they didn’t get bored because it was different through out and you had a story to follow. So I have learned from this feedback that it is always good to have some narrative behind what we have created so the audience can understand it more and not get confused in what they are watching.
They also said that the main bit that really stood out for them was the phone it was all in black and white except that which made the audience more interested in what they are watching as it was different from everything they have watched in the music video we created, It looked effective. This was shown at the end as well to show this could be a dream which was a effective and was different from what everyone else has been doing which caught the audiences eye.

ADDITIONAL PROJECTS

Magazine advert

On my magazine advert there was mixed opinions on it because at the top I have a white background with the band on it and some liked it and some didn’t. But my persona opinion I think it looks effective and fits in with my additional projects theme.
The other feedback I got was that the genre went well and fitted in with what I was betraying across to the audience.

So what I have learned from the feedback I got for my additional projects is that continuity is needed so the audience can relate to one another. It is important to have this in the real media if you want to sell the product.


CD Cover

My CD cover was continuity to the poster and looked effective. The audience like the colour scheme I chose which was black, grey, white and black to fit in with the image of the band genre. The audience feedback was good as I can see now how you have to have it follow through from the advert if you want people to know who the band are so when you go buy there products you will know from far away what it is.

So what I have learned from the feedback I got for my additional projects is that continuity is needed so the audience can relate to one another. It is important to have this in the real media if you want to sell the product.

The themes of the music video and the song are influenced on the style of the album cover because of its colour scheme of black and white and the use of the band, also how the rock/pop genre is getting across through the two and works really well and if it was real media you would be able to indentify it.

The presentation of the artists is important on the music video and the album cover because you are trying to get the audience to recognize them so you can buy their singles/albums to make them money, if you make them look good in all of the presentation to the audience they will buy this before they have even heard of the song yet. E.g. the band The Saturdays even though they are a pop genre they come across as a big selling point to the audience before they sang because of the advertising of them al together in black dresses but different colour tights and they look stunning. So the audience automatically know what genre they are and like them before they have brought anything out because of the adverting of them. So it is very important in how you present them.

Evaulations

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In Our media product it challenges the forms of conventions of real music videos, as in many of pop/rock bands. For example Arctic Monkeys their latest music video they have brang out ‘Crying Lightning’ their footage relates to there lyrics within the song where they are in the middle of the sea on a boat, and the video contains a lighting in the background and creating a storm.

Once they get into the music the video picks up e.g. the storm and the colour scheme changes to. So you can relate the lyrics to the video that they have made, Where as ours doesn’t have a obvious linking between our lyrics and our video.

We don’t really have any relations to the lyrics in our video but we do have some little similarities within. In our video we have a girl just doing her every day activities waking up and going to college, but then to fit in with our genre of video pop/rock we have some boys come in a destroy her classroom that’s she is in doing her work. This is shown throughout the video little clippets of it. In a way some parts of our video does link with the lyrics but it is harder to find unless you’re really trying to figure what they are. As our video is different maybe this will interact with the audience more and they want to watch it more. In a typical rock music video there is always a link between the video and the song, and you only need to listen to the song and glance at the video once and you will be able to picture what will be going on through out the video Where as our video you will have to watch it through out.

In all bands music video they always have clips of the band playing in the video either to the audience or in the studio so this is way we have sort clips of the band playing on stage. But we have made out the girl went to that gig and got really drunk with her friends and she is stumbling home from the night and then she has to go to college the next day, not really feeling up to it then the band come in a trash her class room and finds out at the end that it might have been all a dream but it’s a twist so you don’t really know if It was or not.

Also we have challenged the forms of conventions of real media product where most band videos they are singing ‘Miming’ there song with in the music video but in ours we don’t have any singing throughout only actions of the band playing on stage. But I ours we wanted to have a video based a teenagers life style so they can relate to it as that’s who we are trying to aim at. So we have her waking up, getting dressed, go to college, studying, partying, getting drunk then going to sleep and then it happens all over again, So it a repetitive cycle that teenagers do every day. So we didn’t want the girl to be miming because we wanted it too look realistic. She wouldn’t be doing this in real life so this is we have challenged this.

Our video is aimed at Teenagers so we want it to be fun and comical and what they would love to do, like in our video we have the boys come into a classroom and destroy it, and most people that hate college/school would love to do this as they would enjoy it. This keeps the video fun and interesting to the younger audience, but in our video we have a lot of walking which can bore the audience specially to the younger generation but we have made it more interesting and each time you watch it, its different but changing the speed of it and some of the angles so you don’t get that bored of it and to link it with the pace of the music.

Magazine advert

To help me create my magazine advert I looked at how Chase and Status who are a drum and bass group not a Rock/pop group to create the poster because there adverts are always simple but effective and the theme can be for any genre. This helped me a lot with my poster and I think fits with the genre and goes really well. As it has a caption, tagline, header ect…

This then helped me create mine like just have bold boxers and simple colours but I did want to add a image into my advert so I added the band in with everything under neither in a blue box. My poster is bold and sharp and I think eye catching to the audience. The colour I have used is to fit in with what the band was wearing so it all fits in with the theme, mine is different from how a rock band normally have there posters as they are more sharp, harsh and bolder with their themes but I wanted to get across that is also pop that’s in with it so I used softer colours which I think fits in really well. I have challenged the forms of real media products because it is not what you would normally see for this genre.

In the advert I have used square shape boxes as they are normally used in adverts more then other shapes. This draws the audience attention because it is bold and in your face, you can tell this is for teenagers as the advert theme and the band members are younger it will apple more to them then the older generation.

CD COVER

I have created a CD Cover back and front. I created this by looking at other CD covers to get ideas from that I liked. In my CD cover at the front I have the band members the same as the advert so its continuity and you know who they are and the audience can recognize them. I use the forms ad conventions of real media products as I have the bands name and the title of the album on it and then on the back the list of the songs that are on the album with the same images from the front but changed a bit to black a varies of colours which strangely go together and work really well.

FEEDBACK ON FILM AND ADDTIONAL PROJECT

On the 15 December 2009 we showed our film and additional projects to the class and see what there feedback from it was, This is the feedback we recieved.

FILM

• Narrative structure was good as it gave intrest to the audience so they didnt get bored
• The change around of the camera angles looked effective
• Walking away from the camera was not too good we should of had Amber walking towards the camera.
• The speed changes within the music video was good
• The phone at the beginning in colour then contrasting into black and white looked effective
• The band shot wasnt very good - next time we should get a better shot of them to make the video look even better.
• The very last shot of the camera looked very effective and different from everyone else.
• The editing together was good, But could of been more tighter in places, like the cross shots was good but needed more of them and less walking.

ADDITIONAL PROJECT

Poster

• Reno said that he wasnt sure on the white on the top but it was mixed opions on it.
• People said it looked effective and fitted in with the genre of what we are trying to get across.
• Like how i have done the colour scheme.
